RIBI Rotary Young Photographer 2010-11

Young people get Snappy with Rotary Competition

The Rotary Club of Navan are delighted to have participated in the RIBI Young Photographer Multi District Competition. Our first time to Sponsor this competition was in 2009. We are very fortunate to have a very generous sponsor in Hydro International, a company owned by P.J. Finn, Navan.

The Purpose: To encourage youngsters to consider their surroundings and record their thoughts and ideas using the medium of photography. Local competitions at Rotary clubs produce winners in each age group and then these photos are judged at District level and District winners go on to the U.K. final. Prizes are awarded and the photos are displayed around Navan at a later stage.

For the year 2009-10 our young competitor who won the local competition also won the district and eventually the RIBI final in the U.K. What an achievement in our first year.

The 2010-11 competition in presently underway and already the young man who won the local Intermediate competition (aged 11 – 13 years), Sean McGorman from Kilmessan, has also added the District competition to his achievements. His entry now goes forward to the RIBI final in the U.K.

Each year the competition has a different theme and the 2010-11 theme was ‘Community Spirit’.

The judges at District level commented as follows:

"All four pictures are very composed and well presented. Vitality and imagination mark the whole portfolio. The theme of Community Spirit is particularly well conveyed in the "Spring Clean" and Football Training."

The Club competition is normally completed by the beginning of March each year. There are three age categories in which to participate.

· Junior: Aged 7 – 10 years · Intermediate: Aged 11 – 13 years · Senior: Aged 14 – 17 years

We congratulate young Sean and wish him good luck in the final of the competition.
