Navan Rotarian helps to change lives

Navan Rotarian Olatunji Olaleye, better known to his friends as T.J. has just returned from Nigeria having successfully set up and completed a Medical Outreach Mission to Ogun State, Nigeria.

Each year T.J. chooses to participate in medical missions as his personal avenue of service since 1999. Consequently, he has volunteered his time and service for organisations such as Operation Smile Ireland and also organise medical outreach missions to Nigeria and Egypt.

The mission always provides medications and surgical consumables for the programme. Some of the medications are sourced locally in Nigeria from reputable pharmaceutical outlets while a vast majority are sourced from both the USA and the republic of Ireland.

This year the Mission was a tremendous success. Over 600 outpatients were attended to and given medications for various medical ailments such as Diabetes Mellitus, High Blood pressure, malaria, upper respiratory tract infections etc., over 1,000 people were dewormed and a total of 22 surgical procedures were also carried out.

Medications, crutches and surgical consumables were also donated to the State Hospital, Ota for use on indigent patients. All the volunteers that T.J. prevailed upon rendered their valuable services free of charge for this outreach mission. President Sylvester congratulated T.J. on his outstanding achievement and stated that he truly lived the Rotary motto of “Service above Self”.
