Winner of Navan Youth Leadership Development Competition 2013

Eimer has set her sights on the European Parliament after success in the Rotary Youth Leadership Programme.

Navan student, Eimer Finn, has won the Rotary Club of Navan Youth Leadership Development Competition for 2013.

Eimer, who is a student of St.Joseph’s Convent of Mercy Secondary School in Navan, won the first prize in the club competition run by the Navan Rotary Club and also qualified as one of the regional finalists. Eimer was presented with the Tony Rowntree Memorial Shield and a cheque from the Navan Credit Union.

The next stage of the competition was the Regional Final, which was held in Dundalk this year; Eimer was again successful and won one of the three coveted places for a trip to the European Parliament.

Eimer stated that this was a great honour to represent the Navan Rotary Club and Ireland in the European Parliament and was delighted for the opportunity to gain interview experience throughout the competition. She is now looking forward to debating issues in the European Parliament and meeting other young people of a similar age.

The 24 winners were selected from over 3,000 applicants from all over Ireland based on their leadership skills and after completing an interview selection process. They will be taking part in a weeklong Leadership Development Programme in Belfast, Dublin and Strasbourg. The group will also visit Stormont, Dail Eireann, and the European Union Offices before departing for Strasbourg.

Eimer has also got a serious interest in music, having studied Piano and Solo singing, she has also competed with her choir in the All Ireland School Choir completions. She is also a member of Schola, a liturgical Music Group who regularly perform at Church functions.
