Winner of Navan Rotary Club Youth Leadership Development Competition 2014

Katie White won the Rotary Club of Navan Youth Leadership Development Competition for 2014.

Katie, who is a student of St.Josephs Convent of Mercy Secondary School in Navan, put in an outstanding performance to win the first prize in the club competition run by the Navan Rotary Club and also qualified as one of the regional finalists. Katie was presented with the Tony Rowntree Memorial Shield and a cheque from the Navan Credit Union. The other school winners were: Laura Anne Cope, St. Michaels Loreto, and Joseph Curran, St. Pats Classical School, Navan. This year, there were 23 participants and the standard was excellent. The emphasis in this competition is on the qualities needed for leadership, and leadership potential in educational, vocational, community and/or sporting areas.

Katie says that she found the interviews very beneficial and the competition challenging. I never had an interview before. I did not know what to expect at an interview. It turns out that the major fear is the fear of the unknown. I am really looking forward to the next stage of the competition, which is the Regional Final. This takes place in Newry this year on the 24th November and she will be in competition with the winners from 10 other Rotary Clubs. From this regional final, three youths will be selected to go on a group study tour to European Institutions in Strasbourg and to a Euroscola day at the European Parliament.
