Winner of Navan Rotary Club Youth Leadership Development Competition 2015

The Rotary Club of Navan are once again very pleased to announce the very successful running of their Youth Leadership Development Competition. This is a competition that is designed to help prepare young people for their future career.

St Patrick’s Classical School student is overall winner in a very tight competition.

Gearoid Dardis, a transitional Year Student at St Patrick’s Classical school, won the Youth Leadership Competition 2015 on October 23rd last.

The Youth Leadership Competition fosters leadership in young students, encouraging them to demonstrate skills of responsibility, problem solving and leadership in all aspects of life. This is a largely non-academic competition as it reflects leadership skills in sport and community work as well as in school. The standard every year for this unique and rewarding competition is high.

This year the panel of judges all agreed that the standard of all the students was exceptional. There were 18 students in all who participated in the competition from four secondary schools in the area. The other school winners were; Monika Dukalska, (St Joseph’s Mercy) Arianna Mary Owens (St. Michael’s Loreto), and Jack Hetherington (Dunshaughlin Community School)

Gearoid was presented with the Tony Rowntree Memorial Shield and a cheque generously donated by the Navan Credit Union. The other School Winners also received a cheque each from the Credit Union. Gearoid will now go ahead to compete in the Regional Final which will be held on November 20th 2015 in Portadown

The Navan Rotary Club join in sending every good wish and luck to Gearoid in the Regional Final.

The Youth Leadership Development Competition is run by Rotary International in Ireland with the assistance of the European Parliament Office in Dublin.
