Dr. Colm Irwin R.I.P.

Dr. Colm Irwin R.I.P. past President of Navan Rotary Club 1987-1988

The death has occurred on Sunday March 27th 2011 of our dear friend and colleague Dr. Colm Irwin, dental surgeon, of Springfield Glen, Navan. His passing was peaceful in the loving care of the staff of Our Ladys Hospital, Navan.

Colm was a founder member and former President of the Rotary Club of Navan (1987-1988) He was a proud father, devoted husband and Grandfather, and successful businessman.

A native of Duleek, Dr. Irwin was born in 1929 to Patrick & Ita Irwin. He was educated in the Cistercian College, Roscrea, followed by University College, Dublin, where he studied dentistry, qualifying in 1952.

Colm’s presence and contribution to the Rotary Club of Navan will be sadly missed and the sympathy of Rotary members in Navan goes to his loving wife Nuala, and children Paul, John, Conor, Louise, Geraldine, Colm had been in failing health in recent years.

Deceased had many interests, especially horseracing, Gaelic games, Bridge, Golf and the Irish language. He was also a longstanding member of the Knights of Columbanus. Swimming gave him great pleasure, particularly after his retirement.

He was also awarded a Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International. The Paul Harris Award is the highest honour that a Rotary Club can bestow on a recipient. Colm was an active member who kept our 33 members entertained and energised as he championed many projects during his Presidency.
