The Tree of Remembrance is a very important event in the Navan Rotary Calender which we run each year at Christmas. Under the direction of John Craig and Peter O Reilly the 2016 event promises to be just as successful as previous years. All the proceeds go to Local Charities.
What is it? - NAVAN ROTARY TREE OF REMEMBRANCE

Where is it? - Navan Town Centre and Johnstown Shopping Centre

When is it? - Friday 16th to the 24th DECEMBER

Tie a yellow ribbon

The purpose of the tree is to give members of the public an opportunity to write a message of remembrance on a silky yellow ribbon, in recognition and memory of departed loved ones, those living abroad, who cannot be with them over the Christmas period, family or friends in hospital or ill at home, or for any other reason, to remember someone at this time of the year. All ribbons are then attached onto looped strings of tape, and gradually hoisted to the top of the Tree of Remembrance, as the tapes fill up. In return, people are requested to make a small donation towards the Rotary Club’s charitable fund. All monies collected will be distributed to local charities.

Cinema Night
Date:Thursday 3rd November 2016
Time:8:00pm
Venue:Diamond Cinema, Navan
The Cinema Night is a very successful event we usually run in the month of November. Under the direction of P.J. Finn the 2016 night promises to be just as enjoyable as previous years. All the proceeds go to Local Charities.

The Navan Rotary Club Annual Cinema Night will take place on Thursday 3rd November in the Diamond Cinema in Navan at 8:00 p.m. The film selected for this year is "The Choir".

The Choir review: The stars shine but it’s the music that makes the movie

The voices are the stars, while Dustin Hoffman is just along to support the gifted preteen sopranos in “The Choir.” A welcome return to feature filmmaking by “The Red Violin” director Francois Girard, this relatively by-the-numbers boarding-school drama distinguishes itself through song, thanks to the exceptional musical talents of the American Boychoir School, preteen sopranos whose otherworldly talent lasts for only a few years at most.

Stet (Garrett Wareing) is an 11-year-old kid from the wrong side of the tracks, who, with no formal training, possesses the voice of an angel. When his mother is killed in a conveniently timed car crash, the boy’s well-meaning teacher (Debra Winger) pleads with his wealthy but uninterested father (Josh Lucas) to send Stet to the American Boychoir School.

Rotary Youth Leadership Development Competition
Date:Tuesday 18th October 2016
This competition is one of our longest running youth projects and it rewards young people with clear leadership potential based on their extra-curricular activities.

The Youth Leadership Competition fosters leadership in young students, encouraging them to demonstrate skills of responsibility, problem solving and leadership in all aspects of life. This is a largely non-academic competition as it reflects leadership skills in sport and community work as well as in school. The standard every year for this unique and rewarding competition is high.

Every year Navan Rotary in conjunction with Rotary International organizes a Youth Leadership Competition. The competition is open to anyone who has attained 15 years and will be less than 18 years on the 1st January 2016. As a culmination of this year?s competition 24 young people, selected at the regional finals, will be traveling to Strasbourg early next year to participate in EUROSCOLA 2016 on an all expenses paid trip. This is a part of a very special week, which sees young people coming together and meeting participants from all the European Union countries and forming friendships, which will last a lifetime. It is a competition that has been running for a number of years now in which all the Rotary Clubs in Ireland participate. The local winners go forward to a regional final and upon completion, a total of 24 regional winners form an Irish Youth Leadership Delegation who are accompanied to Brussels for a week in February each year. They are joined by a similar number from the other EU countries and participate in workshops in mixed groups and have the use of the EU Parliament to debate the various issues they have considered. Navan Credit Union has been our very generous sponsor for our competition in recent years

Gearoid Dardis, a transitional Year Student at St Patrick’s Classical school, won the Youth Leadership Competition 2015 on October 23rd last.

There will be prizes for the local winners with a prize for their school also. Fiona Daly-Perez and her committee will be the local co-ordinator for this competition. The closing date for entries will be 30th September 2016. And the interview date will be 18th October 2016 2016.
