Youth Leadership Competition
Date:Wednesday 30th November 2005
Every year Navan Rotary in conjunction with Rotary International organizes a Youth Leadership Competition. The competition is open to anyone who has attained 15 years and will be less than 19 years on the 1st January 2006. As a culmination of this year?s competition 24 young people, selected at the regional finals, will be traveling to Strasbourg early next year to participate in EUROSCOLA 2006 on an all expenses paid trip. This is a part of a very special week, which sees young people coming together and meeting participants from all the European Union countries and forming friendships, which will last a lifetime. It is a competition that has been running for a number of years now in which all the Rotary Clubs in Ireland participate. The local winners go forward to a regional final and upon completion, a total of 24 regional winners form an Irish Youth Leadership Delegation who are accompanied to Brussels for a week in February each year. They are joined by a similar number from the other EU countries and participate in workshops in mixed groups and have the use of the EU Parliament to debate the various issues they have considered. Navan Credit Union has been our very generous sponsor for our competition in recent years. The winner of the 2004 local competition was Ms. Niamh Gavin, a pupil of St. Joseph?s Convent of Mercy, Navan. Our target group for this competition would be the ?Transition Year? and 5th Year. As stated earlier, the local winner goes forward to represent Navan Rotary in the regional final where the final selection will be made. There will be prizes for the local winners with a prize for their school also. Pat Marley, Rotarian, Beaufort College, Trim Road, Navan, Co. Meath, will be the local co-ordinator for this project. 046-9028915. The closing date for this competition will be 21st October 2005. And the interview date will be 10th November 2005. The Navan Rotary Club have decided to inaugurate a ?Tony Rowntree? Perpetual Memorial Trophy for the winner of the local Youth Leadership competition this year.
